PROGRAM FAQS

WHAT ARE THE MAIN SKILLS THAT WE FOCUS ON IN THE SESSIONS?

At Evolve we place a strong emphasis on teaching and developing players’ / students’ footwork. We believe that footwork is the foundation on which everything else is built and is essential for effectively performing all skills from a push-cross to a step-back jump-shot to a defensive slide. We strive to develop mirrored footwork in all our students to make them more fundamentally-sound, well-rounded and effective players.

WHAT OTHER SKILLS DO WE EMPHASIZE TEACHING?

At Evolve our approach to teaching is multi-faceted. We don’t just teach the how but also, just as importantly, the when and the why. We believe that this is critical to improving players’ understanding of the game and their ability to read game situations and apply the appropriate solutions. This 3-pronged approach to teaching and learning enables students to grow both their basketball IQ and their decision-making skills in addition to their skills.
A modern trend is for players to be workout warriors and can perform all the skills to perfection against cones in workouts but struggle to apply their skills in game situations. At Evolve we strongly believe in the importance of getting in repetitions against live defense in preferential simulation situations in order to enhance students growth and best prepare them to be able to effectively perform in competition.
In addition to teaching the how, when and why we create preferential simulation situations, using a constraints based approach, to expose students to game like scenarios where they need to come up with solutions, at game speed, to enhance their decision-making skills as well as the execution of their skills under game-like conditions.
At Evolve we teach skills in tandem with both a solution and a counter-solution. This is to equip students with appropriate solutions regardless of what the defense takes away

WHAT IF A STUDENT'S AGE FALLS BETWEEN TWO PROGRAMS?

Although programs are age-based, when a student is in between two programs, we will also consider the student's skill level and maturity.   In most cases, students are best placed in the younger of the two programs. However, we recognize that no two students are alike and we will consider each individual’s situation. If you have any questions or concerns, then please contact us prior to selecting a program for your child.

WHAT FACTORS DO YOU CONSIDER TO DETERMINE A STUDENT'S LEVEL?

A student's appropriate level is based on the following factors:

  • Moral strengths.

  • Performance strengths.

  • Tennis skills.

  • Fitness skills.

  • Parental support.

  • UTR.
